Leading to CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Instructing Sports Conditioning

The investment in sport, from grass roots to professional level is creating a huge demand for a new breed of strength and conditioning coaches to work with serious athletes and people who are dedicated to maximizing their sporting potential.

Working with athletes ranging from Sunday league football to professional athletic associations, your role as a trainer is to help increase their performance levels by analysing their sporting movements and planning skill development programmes. The teachings of this course are based on human physiology and biomechanics and will provide vital knowledge to Personal Trainers or sports people.

The principles learned on this course are transferable to all clients groups to increase a participants strength function and movement quality.

Why should I do this course?

This course will give you all the principles needed to condition athletes. You will learn how to effectively analyse sporting movements, design skill development programmes, devise conditioning programmes and be able to layer all this information into a periodised overview. If you are a Personal Trainer who wishes to specialise in working with athletes or wants to gain a more in depth knowledge of skill development or, if you are working towards a Master Personal Training Diploma, this course is for you.

How is the course delivered?

Over the three practical course attendance days, there will be both practical and theory sessions. This will cover all the information you’ll need for your case study that is to be submitted eight weeks after your attendance.

How will I be assessed?

  • Biomechanical analysis of an athlete in action
  • Designing progressive skill rehearsal training programmes
  • Designing progressive conditioning programmes
  • Viva (formal interview)

What do I need?

  • Students must hold a Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
  • Students must be aged 16 or over

What qualification will I receive?

  • CYQ Level 3 Certificate in Sports Conditioning.
  • 20 REPs CPD points

Unit 1

Biomechanical analysis of athletes – learn how to breakdown the mechanics of individual movements and how to analyse the musculature involved to enable the effective prescription of exercise to improve the movement ‘s functionality

Unit 2

Physiological training needs analysis for individuals/groups – Learn how to assess the specific needs of a client’s performance for cardiovascular conditioning and muscular strength/endurance requirements.

Unit 3

Motor skill development – Learn to develop motor skill drills to improve the client’s speed, agility, quickness and spatial awareness.

Unit 4

Plyometric exercise - Learn the indepth principles of plyometrics and how they can be utilised to improve sports related performance.

Unit 5

Muscular strength and endurance conditioning – Building on the knowledge gained from the certificate in Personal Training, this unit focuses on athletic conditioning.
